Trail Biking in Northern Thailand
There are not many feelings that beat cruising across the North of Thailand on a 250cc trials bike. This region includes the infamous golden triangle that marks the point where Thailand, Laos and Burma converge on the mighty Mekong River. The mountains seem to be constantly shrouded in mist lending a mystique, which is extenuated by the region's recent history.
Famed for its opium production and warlords it is now calm and tranquil. The mountains are sprinkled with picturesque villages inhabited by many different hill tribes who's migratory patterns have led them from as far as Tibet and Yunnan to the high valleys of Northern Thailand where they still pursue their traditional way of life. It is the trails that connect these villages that we will follow, cutting a path through the hills from Chiang Rai to Tha Ton, along the Mae Kok river.
Climbing to the Kuomintang village of Mae Salong and descending through green valleys, our routes run high into the mountains of Chiang Dao and Mae Suai and include incomparable rides along ridge top trails with views of limestone mountains and hill top villages. Travelling by motorcycle we can see a vast amount of this fascinating region in a relatively short time, traveling along trails other tourists never venture, and we can promise the experience of a lifetime.

More Details
We use Honda 250cc trials bikes for the trip, the bikes are well serviced and more than up for the job. Most trips have large off road sections but we never ride continuously on dirt, preferring to mix it up with "asphalt relief". The off road sections are mostly vehicle width dirt tracks but we do encounter some very rough single track, which if steep and/or rutted can make for difficult and challenging riding. However any reasonably competent motorcyclist should be able to negotiate the way, but we do insist that you understand the dangers involved in trail bike riding. The tour is led by an experienced Wild Planet guide, medically trained and with sound mechanical knowledge of motorcycles, plus a registered local guide. Our guides have excellent local knowledge and are always ready to keep you informed on the cultural and historical areas we pass through.
Think before You Book
Trail bike riding can be a dangerous sport, we insist that you think twice before coming on our biking adventures because we want everyone to enjoy them. If you are not comfortable riding a motorbike on rough ground for 6 hours a day then this is not the trip for you. If you are then you'll have the time of your life, the trails we follow are quite simply the best we've ever ridden and we are more than happy to show them to you, as long as you are up for the challenge.
The Small Print
All participants must sign a disclaimer form absolving the Wild Planet of any liability in case of an accident and must secure a deposit (or passport) against any damage they may do to the bike.
Trail biking trips are not scheduled and only depart on demand.
