Trekking in the Chiang Dao Region
Chiang Dao is in the North Eastern part of Chiang Mai and includes Doi Chiang Dao, one of the highest peaks in the area. The majority of the area is forestry reserve. A number of different hilltribe villages are situated in the region making ideal overnight stops for trekking expeditions.
The temperate climate and wealth of foot trails mean that trekking routes are numerous and safe. Also local trails to the villages mean that evacuation and access routes are easily managed.
Itinerary
Departure Day: Depart Bangkok by overnight sleeper train to Chiang Mai.
Day One: Tranfer to camp, training on navigation and trail skills, errect camp, camp duties / dinner, followed by wide games / briefings on next day by staff.
Day Two: Breakfast, trek briefing and kit check, depart to trailheads. Arrive at village and establish campm camp duties / evening meal, briefing.
Day Three: Breakfast, kit check, depart. Finish trek, transfer to resort (20 minutes). Overnight resort.
Day Four: Breakfast, briefing for orienteering event / route panning session. Begin event (2 hours), finish event, de-brief and checking in of groups. Lunch, depart fro Chiang Mai and train station. Board train for o/night trip to Bangkok.
Final Day: Arrive early morning in Bangkok by overnight sleeper train from Chiang Mai.
NOTE: the teams will depart early morning from the camp on a number of trekking routes. They will be tasked with carrying their daypacks in which will be food and water for the day. Day 2 will see the teams trekking out of the hilltribe village down towards the Chiang Dao valley. Today will be between 12-14 km and take approximately 6 hours. Participants are asked to assist with navigation, teams will have a route map and compass. Overnight accommodation will be in traditional longhouses and the guides will cook for the group.
