Pick up at your hotel, we head for the coastal village of Lorne and the start of the Great Ocean Road, stopping for a light lunch at the fishing port of Apollo Bay. In the rainforest of the Otway Ranges we walk along a rainforest board-walk and experience the awesome beauty of a temperate rainforest before descending to the notorious Shipwreck Coast, where huge rolling waves crash relentlessly, carving cliffs, caverns and rock into strange and spectacular shapes, like the famous twelve apostles. Waves that have sent more than forty ships to their watery graves, The scenery is unparalleled for breathtaking beauty and natural savagery. We stay overnight at Seacombe House at Port Fairy.
Day 2
After a full breakfast, we explore Tower Hill game reserve. Descending into a volcanic Crater we view Koalas, Emus and Kangaroos in the wild, as well as a myriad of birdlife. Next we visit the famous Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum where an early coastal port has been faithfully recreated. We return to the rustic fishing village of Port Fairy for lunch in the old Borough Chambers. After a gourmet lunch we travel via Portland and Discovery Bay National Park to the Blue Lake at Mt. Gambier. From Mt. Gambier we travel north to Coonawarra for a wine tasting, where the terra-rossa soil has contributed to some of Australia's greatest reds. Our accommodation is at Chardonnay Lodge.
Day 3
After breakfast we travel to the historic whaling port of Beachport. We drive through Little Dip Conservation Park before continuing to the fishing village of Robe for lunch (crayfish in season). Following the Coorong Wilderness to the mouth of the mighty Murray River and a scenic drive through the Adelaide Hills, we arrive early evening at city hotels.
