WHY BECOME A LIFEGUARD?
The SSI lifeguard program is designed to bring a high standard of training to those involved with people who take part in water related activities. Adding a higher quality of safety to your school/resort water sports activities and offering the chance to have specific lifeguarded beach areas, to be used by less able swimmers.
Considering the increase of drowning or near drowning accidents in Thailand these last years, due to a more expanded market into cultures that are not used to being in or around the water, being able to offer a lifeguard service would be a huge market winner.
The lifeguard course will develop and train skills that will help the person deal with situations that arise when someone has difficulties in the water. The course focuses on proper techniques to ensure that the victim is given the best chance of survival, whilst ensuring that the safety of the rescuer is not compromised.
Lifeguards have two primary responsibilities: preventing accidents and saving lives. For some, lifeguarding is a fun and exciting summer job or part-time work while attending school. Others join professional water safety teams and lifeguarding becomes a full-time career.
Lifeguards work in a variety of environments. They may guard a school pool, summer camp, commercial water park, or designated swim area at a lake or beach, and can supervise swimmers of all ages. The swimmer’s personal skill levels will range from non-swimmer to proficient and highly skilled. Lifeguards interact with the public. They are responsible for educating swimmers, communicating safety rules, and customer service. They are friendly, but also capable of displaying strong leadership, especially in an emergency. Becoming a lifeguard helps individuals develop skills that are useful throughout their life.
