WL6/5NYA: The Wild Lodge NYAA Expedition

Skills training along with a NYAA/DOE style expedition. Ideal Bronze entry.

The Wild Lodge: Khao Yai National Park

location-map-wild-lodgehornbill-lodge_2858296288_oOur purpose built Lodge is a private Eco Resort and Outdoor Centre occupying a pristine natural location on the southern slopes of Khao Yai, with direct access to this world heritage National Park. Located 90 minutes by road from Bangkok International Airport and a world away from the city, the resort is a collection of lodges grouped around a central Sala and pool. The lodges are traditionally constructed using reclaimed hardwoods, sustainable & recycled materials and local skills.

Expedition Overview

The expedition begins from the Wild Lodge and takes students through the nearby village. After a few kilometers they will reach the entrance to ‘Khao Ito’ Park. From here they will navigate through forest trails to reach the summit of ‘Khao Ito’. The park provides a perfect location to allow the students to use their navigation skills without the need for direct supervision. Established check point areas for instructors to monitor progress also provide ideal water refill points. Overnight camping can be within the park or back at the Wild Lodge campground. The second day would begin at the summit and students would follow different trails through the park and finish back at the Wild Lodge.

Prior to arrival

The department head and student welfare representative can be taken on a pre visit to the site prior to the finalization of the programs to address any supervisory or safety issues and to discuss program customization and optimization. A full copy of our code of practice along with risk assessments will be provided for the program.

A Wild Planet staff member can also visit the School/college if required and give a short audio visual presentation to the students regarding what to expect on the program. We are also happy to conduct a presentation/Q &A session for parents to outline our code of practice and safety procedures, if required.

Activities within the program

Photo 11-02-2015, 17 29 03In addition to training and completion of the expedition, activities within this program can also include: Navigation and free camping, Kayaking, MTB and Camp Cookery workshop, designed to give a taster for all possible expedition types open to the student.

NOTE: Some activities are  dependent on weather and may require changes on the day according to site conditions & dynamic Risk Assessment

Our challenge-by-choice approach enables each student to achieve their own successful adventure in the context of their own aspirations free from peer or instructors pressure. We have found during adventure activities, the greatest achievements are never in terms of the distance leapt or the height climbed and that in all our adventure activities everyone has a role to play.
